Renaud's Family - 3 Sentence Ficathon 2026

I did bring my fun vampire family back for the 2026 3SF, though I wrote a few fewer this time! 12 across the ficathon this year.

As before, day and date noted, otherwise precisely as they were collected in the original roundup posts.

General primer for this verse here.

Day 4 - January 20th

Put Away
Original - Renaud's Family; Sylvester, Jacques, Francois
Prompt: any, any, fuck it

"Oh, fuck it," Sylvester said, huffing, "I'm curious; Jacques, give me a boost!"

"But- What if your- What if Master Renaud is angry! I'm sure he put those things away for a reason. . ." Francois said nervously, even as Jacques gave Sylvester the requested boost; they both stilled for a moment, then laughed, enough that Jacques nearly tipped Sylvester back to the floor.

"You really don't know our Grand-Sire, do you?" Jacques asked, a little smile playing about his lips, and hefted Sylvester a little higher. "He might have put them away for any number of reasons - including that he doesn't want us to find them - but even if he doesn't want them found. . . Trust us," he said as Francois shuddered, retreating a step, "it'll be fine." And he really wanted to see what was in those old journals too, now; Grand-Sire's old stories and memorabilia were often fascinating.

Day 5 - January 21st

Come Back
Original - Renaud's Family; Renaud, Julian, Sylvester, Jacques
Prompt: any, any, gardens

"Sire?" Julian paused, licking his lips and eyeing his Sire around one of the just-growing-wild evergreens; then he backed away quietly, heading inside to find his own Childer - he had a better idea.

"Grand-Sire?"

Renaud twitched, lifting his head and taking a shuddering breath for the first time in what might have been an hour, looking around through the fog of history and regrets clouding the once-fine gardens to find the younglings both edging closer, looking hopeful and concerned all at once; he smiled, small and crooked but true, and opened his arms. "Come here, my little darlings."

Day 8 - January 24th

Grand-Sire
Original - Renaud's Family; Renaud, Sylvester
Prompt: Any, any, you're my family

"I'm sorry!" Sylvester curled up tight, squeezing his eyes shut as a few tears leaked out; he tried not to sniffle and resisted the urge to cover his head with his arms, hide himself away.

"Whatever for?" his Sire's Sire questioned, voice soft, and Sylvester sniffed, slowly peeking around to find that he had knelt beside Sylvester, smiling; his eyes were as soft as his voice, as his touch as he brushed a hand over Sylvester's forearm, listening as he stumbled out more apologies, the things he hadn't known, the things some of the other youngsters had warned him about, how he had to be aware and had to act. . .

"Oh, oh, oh, shhh," his Sire's Sire said, shaking his head, folding his legs to sit cross-legged beside Sylvester, "what nonsense they've been filling your head with. Come here, little darling," he added, and as Sylvester's eyes widened, he scooped Sylvester up easily, cuddling Sylvester into his lap, "you're my family, Sylvester; I'm your Grand-Sire, and that means something. You need never scurry about like the others, and never doubt me, any more than your own Sire." he soothed, pressing a firm kiss to Sylvester's temple as he slowly, hesitantly uncurled, leaning into his Grand-Sire instead and rewarded with a tighter hug and the soft thrum of a purr.

Day 9 - January 25th

Late? Perish the Thought
Original - Renaud's Family; Renaud, Julian
Prompt: Any, Any, "You're late." "I didn't want to come."

"There you are!" Julian's voice was low, but he looked frazzled, pushing back a lock of hair that had fallen free of its ribbon as he hurried down the steps. "Sire, you're very late." he said disapprovingly, almost pouting.

"I didn't particularly want to be here," Renaud said dryly, "listening to a bunch of idiots pretend they're old enough to know better, and that gives them the right to order everyone else about," and not one of them more than half Renaud's age, "I'm sorry to have distressed you, though, dear one." he added gently, sliding a hand around Julian's waist to his back, drawing him in for a nuzzle as he sighed.

Project Time
Original - Renaud's Family; Sylvester, Jacques
Prompt: Any, Any, Matching sweaters.

"For all of us? Won't that take a long time?" Jacques asked, leaning in curiously; he was fingering the gauge swatch, Sylvester noticed, and hid a smile.

"It's not like I don't have the time." Sylvester pointed out with amusement; he'd worked on bigger projects when he had rather less time, anyway - now he might have eternity. "I thought Sire and Grand-Sire might like the idea, don't you?"

. . .at least at home, he thought wryly . . . though Grand-Sire would probably take them off to Court wearing them - their Sire could be very particular about appearances, but Grand-Sire said there was no point being fussy about what others thought and as his family they should all do as they liked.

Throb
Original - Renaud's Family; Sylvester, Jacques
Prompt: Any, any, consensual blood drinking

Jacques tipped his chin up a little further, purring as his brother nestled into his neck, throbbing pleasantly under Sylvester's mouth, sharp fangs and delicately fluttering tongue. Sylvester smoothed a hand over his hip, up and back, and Jacques twisted lazily, returning the caress idly, licking his lips. Sylvester's blood lingered there, thick at the back of his throat, and he closed his eyes, revelling in the pull of Sylvester drawing in a steady rhythm at his vein.

Day 11 - January 27th

Special Days
Original - Renaud's Family; Julian, Sylvester, Jacques
Prompt: any, any&/any, the anniversary of a death

"Sire! It's his special day, Jacques should have a cake! Don't you think?" Julian's brows rose, but he smiled as Sylvester dragged Jacques up to him; Jacques wasn't resisting, though he looked bashful, biting his lip. "He died ten years ago on Tuesday!"

"Of course you may have a cake if you would like, dear." Julian said indulgently as Jacques edged closer and Sylvester beamed, amused now he'd heard the reason, "it is a special occasion." he agreed, hiding his amusement.

"Ooh, what about yours, Sire?" Sylvester asked, eyes wide, and Julian blinked. "When is that, anyway? We've never known. . ."

"What about Grand-Sire?" Jacques added, his bright expression shading with curiosity. "When did Grand-Sire die?"

Morning Worries
Original - Renaud's Family; Sylvester, Jacques
Prompt: Any, any, misunderstanding

"Is that really- Oh no, we have to get back home!" Jacques clung to his brother's arm, tugging, and Sylvester looked at the clock as well, his expression shifting to one just as horrified, both of them mumbling something about-

"If you're afraid of your Sire," Hyota said, frowning and shaking his head, "then- Well. . ." . . .then it would be a nightmare; their Sire's Sire was not only Master of the Court around here he had at least a few centuries on the next-oldest member, but if they were afraid, if their Sire was . . . was not good to them. . . Hyota's Sire had taught him well, and he insisted they come home with him instead and be safe.

". . .what?" Sylvester asked, looking blank rather than horrified now, and Hyota's frown deepened. He opened his mouth-

"Sunrise is in less than half an hour; Grand-Sire will be worried if we aren't home soon," Jacques said pointedly, "you twit." he added with a sniff, and Hyota hissed at him, caught between confusion and relief and irritation.

Day 13 - January 29th

Last Moments - First Moments
Original - Renaud's Family; Julian & Jacques
Prompt: any/any vampire turning

"You're sure about this?" Julian asked just once more, and Jacques swayed, but didn't hesitate as he nodded and came into Julian's open arms. He purred in welcome, smiling as Jacques shivered, fingers curling into his shirt, and petted Jacques' back, rocking him, taking these few more moments to remember his heartbeat, his scent, the feel of him warm and fragile and alive.

Then he dropped a soft kiss to Jacques' throat, purred a little louder as he only arched to invite Julian closer, and bit delicately; he kept sharp focus on Jacques' heart, his would-be new Childe's body tucked close, even as he revelled in the heady flow of Jacques' blood, sweet with anticipation.

Wake Up Call
Original - Renaud's Family; Renaud, Sylvester, Jacques
Prompt: Any, Any, Hatching plans

"He said to wake Grand-Sire however we like," Jacques pointed out, pouting thoughtfully, "and we want him in a good mood. . ."

Sylvester grinned, beckoning as he opened the door; not that it was that difficult to keep Grand-Sire in a good mood, even if they did wake him - and it was fun to pounce and see if he would wake quick enough to catch them or only come awake, laughing, as they landed on or beside him - but today. . .

Jacques padded past him, moving quickly on silent feet, and Sylvester mirrored him, circling to either side of the bed where Grand-Sire lay, climbing up quietly; Grand-Sire stirred, but slowly, leaving them plenty of time to nestle in close, exchange a look across him - Jacques grinned, just as full of mischief as Sylvester expected his own was - then turn their attention to . . . giving Grand-Sire a pleasant wake-up call.

Day 18 - February 5th

Too Far
Original - Renaud's Family; Sylvester
Prompt: Any, any, “I would do anything for you” / “Really? Would you stop?”

"Truly, Syl! I would," Francois reaches for one of his hands, and Sylvester resists the impulse to curl his lip; he hates that nickname, "I would do anything for you!" Francois insists, and Sylvester wonders absently what he thinks Sylvester needs or wants that he could possibly do, anyway.

"Would you? Would you really?" Sylvester makes his voice soft and breathy - though he can hear his brother's voice in the back of his mind, telling him this is overkill, which is probably true - and Francois is definitely buying it, smile widening as he leans closer. "Would you," Sylvester trails a fingertip over Francois' face, which is definitely overkill, but he's been so obnoxious since his Sire brought him here; Sire says she spoils him, but he also says that about Grand-Sire and them, so that can't be all of it, surely, "fucking stop?" he finishes with a sharp smile he learned from his Sire and a dubious, judgemental arch of his brow he learned from his Grand-Sire, dropping his hand and straightening his spine.

Day 19 - February 8th

Comfort
Original - Renaud's Family; Renaud, Sylvester
Prompt: Any, any, struggling for breath

"Ohhh, oh, oh, come here, my little darling." Renaud crooned, gathering Sylvester up before he could either struggle to do so or curl up tighter in an attempt to stay away; he gasped weakly, sobbed roughly, tears running down his face, then turned into Renaud's chest, clinging shaky but hard. "I've got you," Renaud promised softly, pressing his lips to Sylvester's brow, holding him tight enough a human would have been breathless - or breaking - rocking him, "it will be all right, little darling. It will pass."

All things would pass, with the time they had, but that didn't make it hurt any less now, and Renaud well knew it; Renaud rocked his Grand-Childe as he shuddered and choked and sobbed, and didn't try to remind him that he didn't need to breathe, well aware that it would not help, not like this.

And that was all for this year's round with this family!
